Say what you mean - live what you say

Easter Morning

Its Easter morning, and the sun is out! There is something about holidays and family that has always been very special to me. Perhaps it is because for so many years for me, while growing up, family was such a transitory thing. Sometimes you remember the strangest things. Like how at random, every year without fail, my foster mother would suddenly offer up "Spring is sprung, the grass is ris - I wonder where da boidies is? Think I'll go to the garden and eat some worms!" Then she would break out laughing while my father would roll his eyes.

Another Easter, while living with my Aunt Elsie and Uncle Carl, I remember a lecture given to their son Scott. He had gotten into some sort of trouble, and was worried about a spanking (they still did that in those days). Elsie said - "there are worse things than spankings - aren't there Dennis?". I agreed (for political reasons) - but in my heart of hearts, at the time, I thought that there was really nothing worse than a spanking - especially from Uncle Carl!

And then of course there are the memories of the anticipation of Easter Sunday, and Easter baskets with CANDY. The real prize was always the chocolate bunny - especially the solid ones (none of those "nambie pambie" hollow pretenders for me).

Later today my wife and I will go to her sister's for Easter dinner, a nice glass of wine and some great fellowship. I don't think there will be any solid chocolate bunnies, but one can always hope! And isn't Hope what Easter is really all about? Hope springs eternal regardless of the silliness that the world seems determined to throw at us.

God bless
