Final Cut Pro X

New Misty Film Logo

Sorry about the long delay in updating the blog. I have been spending a lot of time getting my feet wet with Final Cut Pro X. All of this is has been in preparation for doing some music videos of our material. A lot has been said on-line about the new Final Cut, both good and bad. Many of the "pros" have been very upset about the changes in the platform - so much so, that Apple has actually reversed there decision to no longer sell the previous version. However - from my standpoint, as an avowed amateur, I must say that there is a lot of power available on this program, and for me is a definite step-up from Final Cut Express (my previous program of choice). So - to learn the program, I put together a short "film" of Amelia Earhart using Joni Mitchell's "Amelia" as the sound track. I started by researching what resources were available on-line, downloaded a bunch, and then started my first test project. I was also learning Apple's Motion 5 at the same time.

Once I got started I realized that I also wanted to create a video logo (for a more professional feel) which I could use for all of my projects. The picture at the start of this blog entry is the static logo image. In use it is animated. Then it was back to the project and a lot of trial and error. Fortunately, there are quite a few basic tutorials already available on the web. There are actually pre-teens out there from all over the world who are incredibly sophisticated in these programs. I also had to figure out which video format to use for this site - trust me - there are a LOT of them available (even more if you use "Compressor"). So there you have it. If all goes well, when you click on the new video page for this site, you should be able to view the end results of my trial and error. Hope you enjoy it. With any luck, sometime in the near future, we will actually get a music video posted.
