Finally! Studio Back

smallStudio

After what seemed like forever, and in reality was just about a year, I finally have my studio back. If you have been following the Blog you know about the "Did you cook eggs?"(see below) incident with the basement flood. Insurance pays some, but not all of the costs, so our finances held up the new floor, drywall and paint. In the meantime, the studio was taken down and stored in a safe place.

Just the other day we completed the work, and I set everything up again and fired it up. Everything worked fine, but of course I had lot of updates to do, and in my questionable wisdom I decided this might be a good time to to move to Pro Tools from Digital Performer. I love Performer, but while my studio was down my writing partner moved to protools because of some projects he had, and I always like us to be on the same platform so we can share files with the least hassle.

Pro Tools lead to a series of additional updates - long story short it was the better part of a week before everything was where it needed to be to work smoothly. I also took the opportunity to replace my aging snake with one that had headphone jacks. This means I no longer have headphone extensions criss crossing the studio floor. What a joy! Sometime its the little things that put a smile on your face.

By the way - thats a David Crosby track, "The things We do for Love" - loaded on the two screens. Its from a Fab Dupont tutorial (from Pure Mix) on mixing - Highly recommended - some great stuff in that video. Learning a few new tricks after the long dark night away from the gear.

There's a new bounce in my step, and new work in progress. Will be sharing some of that on this site soon.
